Replacing Existing Lights: A Pre-Order Checklist

For a replacement order, start with the existing installation. A similar-looking light may have different dimensions, controls or component requirements.

A filled inventory example

Illustrative record to adapt to your home
Field Example entry
Room and quantity Living room: six fittings; replace two
Appearance to match White finish; existing light colour to be confirmed
Fit Installer to confirm opening, outer size and clearance
Controls Existing wall switch; component details to be checked
Scope Supply and replacement; ceiling repair quoted if needed

Keep unknowns explicit instead of filling them from a photograph. For each room, confirm the model, variant, measurements and supplied components before placing the order.

Choose the scope before the model

If one fitting has failed and the rest still suit the room, start by looking for a compatible replacement. If several fittings look different or the room no longer works for you, price a complete room refresh as a separate option. Compare the total installed cost, including any ceiling repairs, rather than just the unit price.

Keep a replacement record

For a staged refresh, group matching lights by room or visible zone. Keep the model, variant, dimensions and control details with your order record. A spare may be useful, but future availability and an exact colour match cannot be assumed.

Make a room-by-room inventory

List the number of fittings in each room and note whether you want to replace every fitting or match only a few. Record accessible model labels, colour options and any differences between positions.

Check fit and compatibility

  • Ceiling cut-out and visible outer size.
  • Available fitting depth.
  • Separate lamp or complete light.
  • Existing driver, holder and control system.
  • Mounting and accessory requirements.

Ask an installer to inspect concealed or wired components. Do not use the existing wattage or nominal inch size as your only replacement criterion.

Consider the finished room

If replacing only some fittings, compare appearance and stated light colour with those staying in place. A new model may not match an older one exactly, even when the product names sound similar.

Order after confirmation

Share the inventory with LUMI and confirm the exact variants before payment. Browse available lighting and ask for a separate installation quote if removal, new components or ceiling work is required. Retain order details and check delivered items before arranging installation.
