A deep-recessed downlight places the lamp farther inside the fitting. This can help shield the source from some viewing angles, but comfort also depends on the lamp, position and aiming. Start with the view from your sofa, dining chair or desk—not only the appearance of the ceiling.
Choose the light for its job
For artwork or a display, an adjustable fitting lets you direct the light towards the subject. For general room lighting, compare the selected lamp’s distribution and output before deciding on spacing or quantity. A narrow accent beam and a broad general light serve different purposes.
Check the view from normal seating positions
Mark the places where people sit and the directions they usually look. Consider screens, mirrors and glossy surfaces as well as direct views of the lamp. If glare control is important, ask to assess the intended lamp and fixture together. “Anti-glare” is a design description, not proof of a particular measured glare rating.
A LUMI fixture example
The deep-recessed adjustable MR16/GU10 fixture has tilt adjustment and spring-clip retention. Its stated dimensions are:
- Outer dimension: 105 mm—the visible fitting size.
- Ceiling cut-out: 90 mm—the specified opening.
- Body height: 65 mm—not the complete installation clearance.
Confirm the lamp, holder and supplied components before ordering. The installer must also allow the clearance required for the actual lamp, wiring and installation instructions. Our cut-out guide explains the three measurements.
Four questions before you order
- What should this light illuminate, and from which direction?
- Will the source or its reflection be visible from the main seating positions?
- Does the ceiling provide the specified opening and enough installation space?
- Which lamp, holder and controls are confirmed for this exact fixture?
